10 Steps to Ensure You Ace the LSAT

If you’re thinking about studying for the LSAT, or if you’ve already started, you might be feeling overwhelmed. That’s okay—everyone who studies for the LSAT feels that way at some point. But don’t worry. All you need to do is follow these top ten LSAT study tips and you’ll succeed on the day of the test. 1. Register for the LSAT. Your first step in preparing for the LSAT is to pick the LSAT test date that works best for you and register with the LSAC. This step is critical because by registering for the LSAT, you’ll lock yourself into a test date and you won’t be able to put off studying by always telling yourself there’s more time to study. It’ll also be easier to say no to those day trips to the beach or slopes, because you’ll know exactly how much time you have between you and the LSAT. To help you decide which LSAT test is best for you, you’ll need to make sure you have enough time to study. That bring us to tip #2—effectively setting your study schedule. hbspt.cta.load(58291, 'f5545361-1ed4-49ea-b537-3ac1931c8064', {}); 2. Block your study time early. Ideally, you’ll plan to study for the LSAT for at least two months, three months if you can. During these months, you want to study about 2 to 3 hours a day for at least 4 to 5 days a week. There’s no way around it—preparing for the LSAT is like adding another course to your semester. And the only way to succeed in your LSAT preparation is by blocking off your calendar accordingly. Look ahead to make sure you have enough time to dedicate to studying. You don’t want to find out a few weeks before the LSAT that you don’t have enough time to set yourself up for success. Setting and stick to a LSAT study plan will be essential to your success, so set your LSAT Study Schedules early. hbspt.cta.load(58291, '66fa8036-69b0-47c2-a2ce-65eb98b379fc', {}); 3. Pick the best study materials. Once you’ve decided on the best LSAT study schedule for you, you need to select the best study materials. Essential to your successful studying will be an LSAT prep book or two. There are a lot of books to choose from so save yourself some time by checking out this handy list of Best LSAT Prep Books. In addition to selecting a good book, you may also decide that a prep course is right for you. If you struggle with discipline or the thought of setting up your own course schedule overwhelms you, you can find a course with a set schedule. If you love flexibility or are fitting in LSAT prep around an already full schedule, you may find prepping online at your own pace works best. Either way, make your selection early and base it on what has worked well for you in the past. 4. Practice, Practice, Practice. You’ve selected your LSAT test date and you’ve purchased your study materials. You know what’s coming next—lots and lots of LSAT practice! To truly improve your performance on the LSAT, you’ll need to dedicate hours and hours to completing LSAT practice problems. You have to do this for a few reasons. First, you need to get familiar with how LSAT problems are structured and how the test creators will write questions and answers to try to trick you. Second, you have to see all the levels of difficulty that you’ll see on test day. Not every Logic Game or Logical Reasoning question is created equal. Your success will depend, in part, on how well you can recognize harder questions. You’ll want to skip these questions and come back to them if you have time. Finally, you want to be so familiar with LSAT test questions by the time the actual LSAT rolls around that you can tackle anything the LSAC creates. Another key part of your practice will be reviewing your wrong answers and taking practice tests (more on this in the next tip!). Knowing how to study for the LSAT is crucial and will help you make the most of your dedicated study time. So, before you start in on your hours of LSAT practice, check out How to Study for the LSAT to ensure you use your time effectively. 5. Take full length LSAT practice tests. Another part of your LSAT preparation that is essential to raising your LSAT score is taking full-length LSAT practice tests. As you’re staring down taking multiple practice LSATs, you’re probably wondering what kind of time commitment to expect. Check out How Long Is the LSAT? to learn more about what you’re in for. You should plan to take at least four, full-length practice tests. This means you’re looking at about 16 hours of multiple choice fun. Exciting, huh? Well, trust me, on the day of the LSAT, you’ll be so grateful for those 16 hours of prep time—the test structure, format, and timing will be so familiar to you, you’ll have no choice but to crush the LSAT. 6. Focus on LSAT Logical Reasoning. If you want to do well on the LSAT, you have to do well on Logical Reasoning. Why is that? Because Logical Reasoning makes up half of your score on the LSAT. Another way to think about how much Logical Reasoning is worth is to realize that any time you spent on Logical Reasoning has twice the value as any amount of time spent studying Logic Games or Reading Comprehension. That being said hbspt.cta.load(58291, '8faaf271-80cb-41b3-a622-71c8cc152e73', {}); 7. Don’t avoid your weak areas on the LSAT. While you want to spend extra time focusing on Logical Reasoning, this doesn’t mean you want to neglect any section of the LSAT. Although it can be tempting to skip over whatever the hardest section is—Logic Games for most students—don’t fall into this trap. Your weakest area when you’re starting out is also the area where you can gain the most points and see the biggest increase in your score. 8. Don’t skip the LSAT writing sample. Even though the LSAT writing sample doesn’t make up part of your LSAT score, this doesn’t mean it’s not important. Law schools may assess your writing sample when reviewing your records—you don’t want to miss out on another opportunity to impress the admissions team. On the other hand, you don’t need to spend a lot of time preparing for the writing sample. Just practice the writing sample every time you complete a practice test and you’ll be all set. 9. Prep for LSAT Test Day. To get the most out of your months of LSAT studying, you have to do well on test day. Easier said than done? Nope. Just plan out the logistics of the LSAT test day prior to the actual day of the test. Know how you are going to get to the test center and by when. Plan out your snacks and anything else you’d like to bring that the LSAC permits. By being prepared for the details of test day, you can focus on performing your best and scoring well. 10. Relax. You’re probably thinking, how can I relax when I have to pick a test date, a test site, study for months, and then sit for a four hour multiple choice exam? Fair point. However, it won’t matter how much studying you put in if you don’t have a chance to recharge and let your brain absorb what you’ve studied. Also, to do well on a timed test, you’re going to have to learn to relax even when you’re stressed. So, practice relaxing while you’re studying and taking practice tests so you can absorb more while you’re studying. You’ll end up doing your best on the day of the LSAT. Takeaway Succeeding on the LSAT consists of setting a game plan early on and sticking to that plan. By maintaining your focus—on both your strong and weak sections of the LSAT—you’ll be sure to rock the LSAT and get into the school of your dreams. The purpose of this essay is to investigate and discuss the effects that technology Modern technology has been hailed for the many positive effects it imparts on its users. For instance, with the evolution of the internet students are able to conduct online research for their courses. The internet has offers up to date information on different subject areas. Aside from aiding student academic research, the internet has also opened up the world of communication and commerce. E-commerce is that branch of commerce that has been benefited by the evolution of the internet. People are able to communicate in real time and get timely responses. The modes of communication facilitated by the internet include social media networking, e-mail, Voip calls among others. How did Steve Jobs do it?The internet as we know it connects people from different parts of the globe. It has revolutionized the way in which people conduct their private and public affairs. The emergence of the internet saw a corresponding evolution of high-tech devices which have the capability of gaining internet access. These devices differ in size, price and functionality. The major inventions in the tech world include as Bill Gates of the Microsoft brand and Stev e Jobs of the Apple brand. These inventors are accredited with the invention of computing devices, some of which are gigantic and can fill an average room, and also for the creation of hand held devices that can fit in ones pocket. These inventions that include computers, ipads, iphones, smart phones, have been hailed for the widespread access and use of the internet (Isaacson, 2011). However, negative effects associated with the modern technology are often pushed under the rag. Although there is a widespread acclamation for the use of modern technology, we ought to gain an appreciation of the negative effects imparted on humans by modern technology. The exposure to this technology is not restricted by age ands as thus, young children can also get exposed to this technology. Owing to its ready availability, technology can confer negative effects to children and teenagers who are naturally known to be explorers. The exploration nature of these young minds exposes them to technology and does not provide a safeguard against its harmful effects. A close analysis of technology reveals the manner in which it has affected general conduct among individuals. Of particular interest is the manner in which technology has affected attitudes, behavior and relationships. To clearly understand the effects that technology has on human relationships, we will now fine tune our discussing from the broad topic of technology and look at the social media as a component of technology. The social media is loosely defined as a platform that allows for information interchange between persons that are separated in space. This definition does not exclude the interchange of information that occurs between people that are in close proximity with each other. It is important to also add that the social media as a platform has been afforded success by the various innovations in the tech world. The social media comprises platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tagged, MySpace, Skype, among others . The internet and technology continue to experience accelerated growth. With the inventions pioneered by tech experts such as Steve Jobs and the continued innovation in the industry, there is no telling of the new spheres that technology will open up in the coming years. The society as we know it is rapidly changing as it experiences growth and there are no indications of its slowing down. The changes witnessed in the society emanate from the effects imparted on our lives by the internet and social networks. Inasmuch as these networks were created to enhance human relations, they have been able to do just the opposite. This new way of communication has successfully isolated people form their every day socialization and communication and has thrown them to a state of isolation which has further plunged them into loneliness. The social networks have also been instrumental in detracting people from face-to-face communication with their friends and family members.According to Turkle (2 010), the social networks were initially designed to make work easy. Instead of achieving this end, the computers have ended up connecting humans in a tethered network. Instead of keeping the computers busy, the computers have turned to keep humans busy. Turkle argues that the computers, networks and the internet often leaves its users spent. Human beings, being social animals are likely to feel lonely when they lack people to interact with. Social networks offer a temporary solution to the problem of loneliness. It offers a source of virtual friends who fill the user with a sense of comfort and companionship. However, this feeling is short-lived and leaves the user depressed and lonely. It is easy to find company online but this company is not real. People can enjoy continual connection with each other but its rare to have each others full attention. The users of these social sites have many encounters, friends are made and dropped along the way. This can be harmful to a persons mo rale especially when the person discovers that he has been dropped by so many people as friend. So many people are engaged in social networking, either by texting or chatting instead of going out to meet real people. This has affected the individuals communication and interpersonal skills. The social media also affects family relations. Children are introduced to messaging and texting at a very tender age. In this internet generation, messages are exchanged through facebook and other social networks. The social media has been known to cut into family time. Families no longer spend quality time together. These days, children and teens prefer online chatting and texting with family members instead of the traditional face to face communication. Families and real friendships are being destroyed by the social media because people are too distracted with the social media to pay attention to the people around them. The loose of crucial social interaction skill is yet another effect of the i nternet and social networks. For instance, teens and young adults are said to spend most of their time on social networks such as Skype, Facebook and Twitter. This causes them to lose some crucial socialization skills needed to sustain a healthy face-to-face communication. The social networks adversely affect its users because it promotes escapism; on these sites people can falsify their profile information so as to run away from the reality of their lives (Isaacson, 2011).. This is not healthy because after the user has logged out, he meets up with his real life, a situation that might cause depression. Ties formed on the social networks are not, at the end of the day, ties that bind. The effect of social networks can also be seen in the manner in which these networks affect love relationships. With the advent of social networking, maintaining a healthy love relationship has become a taunting task. Social networking fuels marriage break-ups and takes relationships away from its or iginality. Base love relationships are made and broken over these social networks. Emotions are hurt by these break-ups. Traditionally, people use to meet before they could enter into a love relationship. It is after people meet that they can be able to establish what they have in common. But in this technology age, people who have never met in person enter into relationships which never last. Healthy and budding relationships are affected by the scavengers that are found on these social sites. Oftentimes spouses have engaged in extra-marital affairs through social sites that encourage online dating. Infidelities caused by the social networks have led to many divorces and separations (Isaacson, 2011). The 24/7 FameAccording to Kirkpatrick (2011), in the earlier years of the tech era, people used to exchange emails anonymously. These people then started using their nicknames with the messages and this led to what we now know as social networks. The internet together with these networ ks has become an addictive electronic drug that keeps its users coming back for more. The internet has gained infamy for getting people hooked-up on poor habits that include addiction to pornography. The real cost of this addiction is evidenced by the number of and quality of relationships maintained by the user in the real world. The temptation presented by the social media for people to substitute physical relationships with electronic ones is deemed counterproductive. Too much electronic engagement leads to the development of social isolation.Social networks also provide an avenue through which people can vent and share their feelings. However, people are prone to abusing this provision and use the site to settle scores with people who have done them wrong. The sharing of personal information through social networks might lead to conflict among the parties concerned...
