Young Good Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne And Girl By...

We’ve done quite a few readings from different time periods such as American Romanticism, American Feminism and Post Colonialism. For this paper, I am going to compare and contrast 2 readings, Young Good Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and â€Å"Girl† by Jamaica Kincaid. Hawthorne’s writing is from the American Romanticism week and â€Å"Girl† is from the Post Colonialism week. From my understanding and interpretations, the two of these readings share common themes such as public perception, gender roles, for lack of a better word and trust but they have differing views of each theme. In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown the story revolves around a man named Goodman Brown who has set out on a journey to find the devil. His wife, the young and effervescent Faith tries to coerce Goodman Brown into staying with her and not going on the journey and Goodman Brown assumes that Faith knows the dark mission of his travels. Goodman Brown is a man of str ong moral convictions which reveals a concept of morality being a weakness. This is revealed throughout the story, when Goodman Brown encounters the devil in the woods and he is embarrassed as he does not want to be seen with such a figure when the two encounters Goody Cloyse. He is more concerned with being seen in public with the devil than the actual fact of encountering the devil in the first place. Hesters Psychological Alienation in The Scarlet Letter Throughout his book The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne is preoccupied with the relationship between the individual and society. Hesters sin and subsequent condemnation alienate her. No where is this alienation more apparent than in Chapter 5, Hester at her Needle. Condemned by her sin of passion, Hester is separated from her community, not only physically, as she lives on the edge of the town, but also socially. In this chapter, Hawthorne presents the most profoundly destructive aspect of her estrangement in her psychological condition. Question: Describe about the Impact of culture on communication at workplace? Answer: Impact of culture on communication at workplace Since the world has now become local, organisation has now become multicultural places as multi cuisine restaurants. Communication at work place has now has become more different and two way process. Poor communications practice may lead the organization misleading of information, rise of conflicts and creates huge employee dismissal (Coombs Holladay, 2004). I was very amused by the fact that, cultural diversity can be enriched via communications and language of the nations. Most of the Australian companies like Woolworth and Common wealth banks build the multicultural process of team building which has been one the surprising element for me. EED (European endowment for democracy) conducts various forms of seminar for importance and learning of various languages of world (Democracyendowment.eu, 2015). Via EED sites and networks my I came to know that language at workplace is very much important to sustain in the long run. During my class I came across the EED association that suppor ts enhancing communication skills by giving the grant to that organization who support the multicultural language within the working environment WHS has made several communications legislation requirement in order to maintain discipline at workplace. WHS (Workplace Health and Safety) play important part is ensuring the multicultural employees within the workplace understand the safety and staying healthy norms via various languages (staff.uow.edu.au, 2015). As far as my experience, Australian workplace recognizes the English as their official language and some of major safety signs in order to make the visitors and employee follow the norms. I find it very surprising to know that migrants who are less proficient in English would be given language tuition that may helps the migrants to enhance their communication skills at work pace (Garon, 2011).. However, in comparison of the other nations, Australians work culture is very much relaxed and friendly atmosphere which leads the employees to more socialise. Question: Develop a minimum of five (5) SMART objectives for the charity, considering its e-marketing strategy, event and website. Answer: The first objective: To increase the amount of donation by 5% within five years. It specifies different ways in which separate charity relevant works are done in the official website of Black dog Institute. Considering the charity event it can be said that they want to increase the amount of donation from its existing and future members by organizing a musical concert in Domain, Sydney. As it is an 18s music concert many international and local acts can join the force. Now, considering e-marketing it can be said that they can develop online ticket booking and cancelation of tickets also from various geographical zone. Different social marketing tools such as facebook, twitter are suggested to use for promotion purpose. Finally the website can develop the overall structure so that number of unique visitors can visit and get attracted and engaged to the official website. They also want to add various images to develop the online presence of the website and to get advocacy from celebrit ies and brand ambassadors. They could develop online campaigning for the arranged concert. The second objective: To provide 90% of total income for the treatment of the patient and support (both online and offline) them financially with the rest of the 10% income. It measures the total income coming from the arranged concert. Before implementation the institute should develop the objectives regarding measurement. As the charity has invested $50,000 for their digital promotion they are expecting at least a double income from the musical event. The time considered for the campaigning is around three months. According to the promotional time the sales rate of the tickets is calculated around 90% of the total sell. The objective is to reduce the tax rate and to promote the musical concert throughout the world via online support. Considering website the charity firmly focuses on the donation amount coming after online ticket sells. The website should develop ticket return process in order to increase the number of members. The third objective: To enhance the number of members by 30% over the existing members through incorporating creative and attractive sections in the official website of Black dog Institution. From the overall investment the total income is expecting to be around $10,000, when e-marketing strategies come under consideration. At the same time, the websites objective is to build a worldwide promotion with additional campaigning structures. So that, more number of members gets attracted to the designed website and starts to follow the regular webpage. While considering the event, the achievable or attainable objective is to spread awareness regarding the reason of charity. In order to reduce diseases awareness programs are needed to spread with the help of different digital medium. At the same time, if the organization considers the event then, after selling out the tickets the total income can be utilised for the treatment of the patients. The forth objective: To sale at least 50% of the total tickets within one month. It is found that the objectives cannot be evaluated without the help of the realistic factors. In order to accomplish the goal of the charity, relevant time, effort and right person should be incorporated for the campaigning of the event. A socio economic environment is needed to be implemented to reduce the campaigning related issues. The fifth objective: Raise awareness among in their mission statement, via internet marketing and campaigning through physical presence. In this case, the total time set up is about 3 month for campaigning of the musical concert. While considering e-marketing strategies the company should concentrate on the time management system. If the time management system is clearly structured then the target market can get a complete focus. They should enhance awareness among the members of the institute also. The objective is to receive an overall gain from the target market and if the time is increased for the campaigning then, the amount of donation will decrease accordingly.
